The Bullying Game deals with the unique characteristics of every participant in the bullying cycle and focuses on different learning objectives for each
It emphasises bullies' motivations – such as displaced aggression and status-seeking – and victims' coping strategies, which include assertion and distraction.
Question cards include:
- “Billy's Dad often complains that Billy is weak, telling Billy how much tougher he was at Billy's age. At school, Bill pushes around smaller kids and tells them how pathetic they are. What advice would you give Billy? What is a better way to deal with the problem?”
- “Shoshanna has been spreading false rumours about Maryanne. Maryanne thinks about telling her mother, but then she figures “why bother? Mum can't do anything about it, anyway”. What advice would you give Maryanne? What can Maryanne say to herself that would be better?”
Educators can easily tailor the game for use with individual children or mixed groups of victims, bullies, or bystanders. The game is particularly effective when played in the classroom setting where most bullying occurs.
