Especially helpful with those children who are shy or socially neglected, the Social Skills Game teaches children attitudes and behaviours that will aid their communication with peers.
The game addresses 20 specific behaviours, which fall into four social skill categories:
- Making friends
- Responding positively to peers
- Co-operating with peers
- Communicating needs
Game cards include:
- “Nick decides he want to get to know a new student better. He thinks “I'll ask him something that will get him to talk about himself.” Nick asks the new student some questions and soon become involved in conversation with him. What is Nick saying to himself? What else might Nick say to himself?”
- “Chris wants to play football at break time, but he thinks, “They might tell me I can't play, or they will just laugh at me.” So Chris doesn't ask he just spends break time alone. What is Chris saying to himself? What can Chris say to himself that would be better?”
There are three inventories included in the game manual that can be used to identify the child's specific skill weakness and select game cards to help them.
An accompanying workbook is also available.
