Young people involved in offending behaviours are at serious risk of blighting their education, employment opportunities and, consequently, all aspects of their adult lives. This book provides a comprehensive programme for schools to support young people who may be at risk of offending. The programme comprises 18 sessions which aim to promote students’ decision-making skills and raise their social awareness around criminal activities.
In addition, a staff training resource with PowerPoint presentation and information handouts provides support for all staff, especially those with pastoral responsibilities. The training materials can also be used to inform parents/carers and other professionals about this subject and its importance to students and to the good management of the school community. The resource can be developed to accommodate the needs of specific settings and complement discussion of current issues and practices.
The topics covered in the student programme are:
• Criminal damage
• Street robbery
• Burglary
• Drunk and disorderly
• Affray
• Prostitution
• Assault
• Shoplifting
• Joyriding
• Substance abuse
• Sexual assault
• Arson
• Gang violence.
