Making good decisions is a complex process that involves weighing up which are the relevant facts, analysing them, prioritising them, then predicting all the possible outcomes before choosing the preferred option. Decision-making should improve with practice and with maturity but various processes outlined above can be taught even from an early age.
These cards:
- Present ideas about the process of decision-making
- Explore factors such as other people’s involvement (good or bad?)
- Identify personal traits
- Highlight the importance of the decision relative to the consequences
- Covers issues of health and personal safety
The cards may be used with individuals, pairs or small groups; they can also be used with whole class groups. The sentence on each card has been designed to provoke a response which will lead to further discussion and debate.
