The Self-Control Game is an ideal way to apply cognitive-behavioural techniques to low level disruptive behaviour.
This game addresses 24 specific traits and behaviours classified as impulsive, inattentive or hyperactive. If you work with children who daydream, fidget or act without thinking, try the Self-Control Game. Question cards include:
- “Katie wants to stop interrupting others so much. Why would Katie want to stop interrupting others? Think of a situation where she can practice not interrupting others. What might make it difficult for Katie to stop interrupting others? What advice would you give her?
- “Becky knows she isn’t supposed to stand up at the top of the slide, but she does it anyway. When the teacher takes away her slide privileges, Becky thinks, “I’m always doing something wrong. No matter what, I get into trouble.” What did Becky say to herself? What can she say to herself that will be more helpful?”
A workbook of complementary exercises is available separately.
